On this page, experienced betting writer Frank Monkhouse focuses on the Community Stadium, where Brentford hosts Manchester United. These teams served up a combined ten goals in two meetings last season, including a thrilling 4-3 victory for the locals here back in May. Fancy more of the same, or do you expect the Red Devils to claim their revenge?

Bees flirting with the bottom three

Brentford head into matchweek six stuck down in 17th, one spot higher than the relegation zone. The locals bring stats of one win, a draw, and three defeats, scoring six goals, but conceding ten. Interestingly, Brentford are the highest scorers in the bottom half of the EPL. They’ve found the net as many times as fourth-placed Bournemouth. Their problems lie at the opposite end of the pitch.

Focusing on the defence, Brentford have shipped double the goals conceded by Aston Villa in 18th. The Bees are one point above the Villans, clinging onto safety, but that could all change this weekend. The home team know another defeat and a win for Villa or West Ham would increase the pressure. Nothing is decided this early in the season. Still, manager Keith Andrews appreciates the importance of putting together a run and getting points on the board before things get any worse.

Winless in three, we last saw Brentford in action when the Londoners lost 3-1 to Fulham at Craven Cottage. The beaten team took the lead in that match, but were 2-1 behind at the break and 3-1 down after 50 minutes. Everyone connected to the home dressing room knows they must respond and get at least a point from this match. That’s no mean feat against big-spending Manchester United.

United target back-to-back wins

An away win for Manchester United at the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon could kick-start their season. The Red Devils are currently 11th in the table, with their form sheet showing two wins, one draw, and a pair of defeats. They’ve scored six goals, but conceded eight. The seven points gained places them three above their hosts. With both clubs on six goals scored, armchair fans can expect an entertaining 90 minutes.

Despite being four points better than the relegation zone, Man Utd know an away win here could drive them into the top four, at least for a few hours. The pressure would then be on the teams around them to keep pace. Saturday is also an opportunity to land back-to-back wins, after they beat Chelsea at Old Trafford. Hurting from a heavy defeat in the Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium, United responded in style to defeat the Club World Champions.

Both teams finished last week’s bad-tempered showdown with ten men. United lost Casemiro for a second bookable offence at the end of the first half, after the Blues had Robert Sanchez dismissed just minutes into the match. Keeping 11 players on the field of play in Brentford will be crucial to winning on the road. Taking six points from a possible six and nine from a dozen would show United can target the prize places.

Brentford vs Man Utd prediction

The head-to-head statistics show that both teams have scored in each of the last four games involving these clubs, a run that stretches back to October 2023. We fancy more of the same. A bet on BTTS would’ve also landed you a profit when Brentford lost to Nottingham Forest and Sunderland in August, and in all three matches played this month.

You can back both teams to score at odds of 1.57 with Gamblr. That’s a bet best suited to your weekend accumulators. You can also target the total goals market on the Gamblr app. Over 2.5 goals in three of the previous four meetings, and over 3.5 landed last time. Over 3.5 this time trades at a tempting 2.55, and that’s sure to attract attention.

Judging by the recent performances, I’m picking Man Utd to leave Brentford with three points. The Red Devils were poor against Man City, but showed incredible character to bounce back from that loss and a goal against Chelsea to beat a confident Blues. If the team shows anywhere near that grit and fight in their return, United will secure a profit for us.

Followers looking for an exciting bet at decent odds can try Manchester United to win from behind for the second week in a row at 7.5.

Bet: Man Utd win @ 1.95 / Both teams to score @ 1.57
