Alcarez back for more

Defending French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz is back for more after the Spaniard battled through an engrossing semi-final on Friday. With four Grand Slam titles already in the bank – French Open 2024, US Open 2022, and Wimbledon 2023 and 2024 – Alcaraz needed all his big-game experience to get past Lorenzo Musetti.

The Italian entered determined to make it to his first major final and raced into an early lead, snagging the first set. But Alcaraz fought back to win the second and third. Lorenzo then retired due to a thigh injury, robbing fans of a grandstand finish and granting his rival a place in the decisive match.

Later that day, Jannik Sinner beat Novak Djokovic in the most competitive three-set match you’ll see. The 23-year-old Italian raced into an early lead, but the experienced Serb refused to bow. The score at the end of play read 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

Follow the fresher man

Alcaraz will need plenty more of that fighting spirit to retain the prize, but a premature end to the semi-final on Court Philippe-Chatrier works in his favour. He’s in great form, enjoyed an extra few hours recovery than the man standing on the opposite side of the net, and knows what it takes to win this tournament.

Sinner was put through the wringer by an aging but fully committed Djokovic. Alcarez looks the smart pick here.
