Jake Paul is back in a professional boxing ring, and this time, the American YouTuber turned fighter faces a huge test in Anthony Joshua. The Problem Child and AJ go toe-to-toe at Kaseya Centre in Miami on Friday, 19th December, live on Netflix.

Critics say Paul has no business being in a boxing ring. He’s a content creator, and should stick to what he does best. Supporters argue that the American attracts millions of new fans to the noble art, generating huge sums of cash for the fighters and the sport. One sure-fire way to silence the critics is to add another win to his record, defeating a live opponent.

Few believed former Olympic Games gold medalist and world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua would be dragged into a match with Jake Paul. Despite fighting and destroying the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in 2024, supporters believed AJ was too good to be attracted to the world of celebrity boxing. But here he is.

Will Joshua do as expected and make light work of his opponent? Perhaps you expect Jake Paul to score one of the biggest upsets in modern boxing? Those who believe the bout is scripted and little more than a pantomime this festive period might fancy the draw. Former professional boxer and sports betting writer Frankie Monkhouse offers his views to Gamblr.

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua stats

Here are some interesting stats to keep in mind when making your Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua preview and predictions.

  • Anthony Joshua has claimed 25 of his 28 wins inside the distance.
  • Jake Paul enters unbeaten in his previous six bouts since losing to Tommy Fury.
  • AJ was KO’d inside five rounds by Daniel Dubois at Wembley last time out.
  • The Problem Child beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on points in his most recent bout.

Paul boasts 12 wins from 13

We’ll start with a look at Jake Paul’s boxing record. On paper, he’s a strong and progressive fighter. Jake has won 12 of his 13 previous bouts, scored seven knockout wins, and lost only once on points. He’s already contested 70 pro rounds, meaning he’s no mere novice. That’s a solid foundation for his career, but his CV doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.

A 12-1-0 record is great, but who has he been beating? The answer is not much. Here are some of the fighters he’s faced and their boxing records at the time.

Jake’s first four opponents were debutants. That’s not out of the ordinary for a new pro, but it would’ve taught him little. He fought and beat Tyron Woodley in his opponent’s debut and second fight. Challenged to move on from facing former MMA fighters under boxing rules, Paul began facing washed-up, long-retired boxers.

Jake lost to Tommy Fury on points. He did better than many expected, but was well beaten. Since losing to Fury, followers have watched Paul fight another uninspiring bunch, including Nate Diaz, Michael Perry, OAP Mike Tyson, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

AJ brings a stunning 89% KO average

If you’re a boxing fan or even a sports lover, you’ll already know about Anthony Joshua’s incredible story. He rose from the streets of London to win an Olympic gold medal at super heavyweight. He then turned pro with Matchroom and battled through the ranks to win a world heavyweight championship. He’s one of British boxing’s prized assets.

Despite his previous achievements, AJ has lost three of his last seven. The Brit was out-boxed by Oleksandr Usyk before being out-fought by Dynamite Dubois. Having lost his most recent bout, should backers be worried? I wouldn’t say so.

AJ has lost only to the cream of the crop. Usyk is one of the most technically gifted heavyweights we’ve seen in years. Triple D has incredible power and is as brave as they come. Losing to those types of fighters doesn’t mean he’ll lose to a content creator with an expensive training camp and a wad of cash. Jake Paul is playing boxing. Anthony Joshua is a human wrecking ball.

Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua predictions

I’ll keep it as simple as possible here.

Unless something goes wrong or the men agree to take it easy, AJ will walk through Jake Paul. If the Londoner is switched on and focused, he could do some serious damage.

Can you imagine what would happen if Joshua hit Paul with the same right hand he landed on Ngannou’s chin? It wouldn’t look good for boxing. But it’s also worth knowing that AJ doesn’t do favours in a boxing ring.

Anthony’s a big boy with a big boy punch and years of experience. What’s more – and this is the most important thing for me – AJ still has ambition and knows fooling around with Jake won’t do his chances of regaining the heavyweight championship any favours.

What’s my prediction? The great Clubber Lang said it best. “Prediction? Pain”!

Take Joshua to win by KO/TKO after settling into the contest.
