Matchday one accumulator

We aim to celebrate the start of the new football season with a Premier League accumulator. All selections are available at Gamblr now. You can choose to follow our picks, add some of yours or go against the grain and try your luck on some underdogs.

We open the show at Anfield on Friday night as reigning Premier League champions Liverpool open against Bournemouth. Arne Slot’s Reds finished well clear of Arsenal and the chasing pack last term.

The board, scouts and coaching staff have worked tirelessly during pre-season to ensure the squad is stronger, fitter, and ready to compete for glory in the EPL and Champions League. Not participating in the Club World Cup also gives them an edge over rivals Chelsea and Man City. Liverpool beat Bournemouth twice last season, including a 3-0 win here in September 2024. Back the hosts to open with a win.

Moving to Saturday, and we’re having a new look Tottenham to beat Burnley in North London. Spurs will be fitter and sharper than their opponents thanks to playing in the UEFA Super Cup against PSG in midweek. Thomas Frank has replaced Ange Postecoglou, and they’ll be a better team as a result.

Spurs were dreadful domestically, but they did win the Europa League and recruited well during the summer months. Home comforts should help settle any early-season nerves and ensure they emerge with the desired result. Spurs beat the Clarets three times last season in the EPL and FA Cup, including a 5-2 victory last September. Take the home win.

Manchester City was another team that underperformed and disappointed fans in the previous campaign. They dropped from first to third, surrendering their Premier League crown to Liverpool. Exit from the Champions League allowed PSG to swoop, and Pep Guardiola’s team achieved little of note at the Club World Cup.

All eyes are on Man City this season. Fans need answers to some burning questions, including whether the 2024/25 season was a one-off or if that slip to third in the league was a sign of things to come in the future. We’ll need to wait and see if City are back to their best, but they’re good enough to beat Wolves and go into our acca. Anything like what we saw from the team in their all-conquering prime would be enough.

Next up, we’re backing the current world champions when taking Chelsea to defeat Crystal Palace in an intriguing London derby at Stamford Bridge. The Blues impressed all during the summer when blazing a trail of glory to the final of the Club World Cup. They were written off by most as the underdogs, but rose to the occasion to defeat an impressive Parisian side. Chelsea made a mockery of what had been billed as a competitive final.

After making it beyond PSG without fuss, you’ve got to fancy them to beat Palace at the bridge. The visitors arrive with confidence after winning the Community Shield against Liverpool last weekend, and earned two draws against Sunday’s opponents last season. But this Chelsea team is the best I’ve seen in a while, and if they’ve fully recovered from their trip to the US, the locals will get the job done.

The final pick for our Premier League matchday one accumulator is for Everton to beat the returning Leeds United at Elland Road. The pair clash on Monday evening in Yorkshire, and it promises to be a competitive 90 minutes. Will the home side show they belong at this level after winning the Championship, or will Everton lay down a marker for the months ahead?

Both teams have recruited well in pre-season and are in much better shape than they were this time 12 months ago. I don’t think there will be too much between the rivals in this match or throughout the season, but I am trusting Everton’s experience to shine through. Everton are unbeaten against Leeds in five games, a run stretching back to November 2020. Take the Toffees to grind out another positive result before a huge audience.
